Death threats and lawsuit for French academic who criticized Islam

by Giulio Meotti

The French Minister of Education, Jean-Michel Blanquer, divulged to RTL microphones that since Samuel Paty’s beheading in broad daylight, there have been 800 incidents linked to Islamic radicalism. The most sensational case concerns another professor. Not a middle school one, like the teacher of History and Geography beheaded at the college of Conflans-Sainte-Honorine for showing cartoons on Mohammed, but a university jurist.“She doesn’t want her name to be published or take on the role of the sacrificial figure of censorship that is devouring academia”, says weekly Le Point. Literally.

“Caroline L.” is a professor at the Faculty of Law of Aix-Marseille. For talking about “sexually transmitted religions” during a master’s degree, she received a complaint from the Ligue des droits de l’Homme (League for the Rights of Man) and countless death threats. Two months after Paty’s murder, this case of another teacher accused of Islamophobia reveals the tragic cracks that fragment academia, freedom of expression and human rights in France.

“I am deeply saddened by what I consider an attack on free speech and academic freedoms,” says the teacher. She was accused of “Islamophobic” claims and the Aix-en-Provence prosecutor opened an investigation for “public insults for belonging to religions.”

The Mediapart website, directed by Edwy Plenel, accused of being the leader of a phenomenon known as “Islamogoscism,” published an excerpt from her university course on Zoom on October 27, eleven days after Paty’s murder. The professor explains there that “there is no freedom of conscience in Islam. If you were born to a Muslim father, you are a Muslim for life. A kind of sexually transmitted religion. One of the biggest problems we have with Islam, and unfortunately it is not the only one, is that Islam does not recognize freedom of conscience. It is absolutely terrifying.”

Students passed the file on to the Human Rights League and the complaint begins. Thousands of death threats come around. The teacher tells Le Point: “Two months after the murder of a teacher, we are in a total inversion of values! I am threatened with death. My words do not contravene any law. We have the right to express an opinion or criticism on any idea. My observations refer to Islam and not to Muslims.”

There is a risk of conviction. “If this were the case, it would mean that in France we would admit the crime of opinion and forbid academics from making critical judgments about a religion, a political idea or anything else … It would be very serious and would mean that very soon it would be necessary to organize large auto-da-fés to burn the works of Voltaire who made virulent observations on religions, especially the Catholic one.”

No remorse. “If you ask me if I regret being insulted and threatened with death, living in fear for my family and I, of course I regret it. I regret living in a society where academics can find themselves hindered in their freedom of speech, that is, in their work.”

Samuel Paty was beheaded. Mila, the high school student guilty of having insulted Islam, is too “radioactive” to set foot in a school again.

To the few academics who speak their minds, it seems that the only “choice” is the same one that Islamic fundamentalists left for the French people in Algeria at the time of its decolonizationt: the suitcase or the coffin.

France: Muslim threatened and beaten up by Muslims for celebrating Christmas together with his family

A young Muslim man was beaten up in France for celebrating Christmas with his family and posting pictures of it on the internet. The 20-year-old Nabil from the eastern French town of Belfort was first insulted and threatened by an acquaintance via the online network Snapchat. The classmate wrote to him that he was “shocked” that Nabil celebrated Christmas being a Muslim.Nabil had previously published photos of the family dinner that he had with his mother and stepfather on the internet. Nabil’s parents are also police officers, which is another reason why he was attacked online. Because of the photos, the school and football colleague threatened him: “I’ll show you what a real Arab is.” When he then wanted to meet the young man to discuss the matter, he was ambushed and physically attacked by a total of five men. Before leaving the injured Nabil behind, they told him to expect the worst if he told anyone about the incident or should he go to the police. When he returned home later, the 20-year-old, whose face was bleeding and covered with bruises, nevertheless reported the incident to the police. Because of the text message, the attacker was quickly identified and arrested. During his interrogation, he still expressed ” being shocked” that Nabil had posted the pictures of the Christmas dinner online and said: “It’s not the Muslim way to celebrate Christmas.”The regional president of Grand Est, Jean Rottner, was appalled by the incident. On Twitter, he spoke of an “unacceptable aggression” that was caused by “racism and hatred towards the police”. The young man was also attacked on the internet because his parents are police officers.Nabil’s mother later said that her son had to “pay for his origin”, but especially for being the son of two policemen. Such racist and divisive behaviour is not tolerable in the 21st century, she said.

Germany: Corona measures has not stopped human trafficking

The police in the German state of Saxony-Anhalt have been complaining about more and more asylum seekers being smuggled into the country by trucks. The perpetrators are organized gangs who open trucks in Eastern Europe, allow their clients in and apparently re-seal their cargo with original seals. The drivers are often not aware of their passengers.

The illegal passengers carry mobile phones with them, and their GPS function tells them where they are.

These facts – although the information comes from the German police – have never been reported in Germany even though the illegals end up in Germany. Instead, the Moscow-based international news agency Rossiya Segodnya has been reporting on the matter.

Germans now apparently also have to turn to Russia in order to find out what’s happening in their country. According to the report, German investigators have not been able to dismantle the smuggling network. Corona sadly, does not seem to be preventing this kind of travel.

“According to the Federal Police, there were 389 operations against truck smuggling nationwide from January to October, during which 4204 people were apprehended. A total of 29 117 illegally entered people traveling to Germany, France or Great Britain were registered nationwide during this period.”

The smuggled people are not to be envied either: If the smugglers choose the wrong truck, they are threatened with suffocation – or they freeze to death.

The Federal Police Department Magdeburg recently discovered four Afghans aged 15, 16, 19 and 22 in a trailer which was fully loaded with engine oil. During the interrogations, the young Afghans made detailed statements about their trip. They had traveled from their home country via Iran, Turkey, Greece, Macedonia and Serbia to Romania.

Legal Memo Outlines Strategy for Trump to Succeed Having Supreme Court Hear Election Dispute

The Western Journal has published a legal memo written by William J. Olson & Patrick M. McSweeney that, they say, “outlines a possible legal strategy for the Trump campaign to follow in the coming weeks.” The legal memo was reportedly sent to President Trump prior to it being published on The Western Journal.

The authors of the memo contend that by refusing to hear Texas v. Pennsylvania, the Supreme Court” abdicated its constitutional duty to resolve a real and substantial controversy among states that was properly brought as an original action in that Court,” resulting in intense criticism that they had evaded “the most important inter-state constitutional case brought to it in many decades, if not ever.”

“However,” the authors say, “even in its Order dismissing the case, the Supreme Court identified how another challenge could be brought successfully — by a different plaintiff.”

Just because Texas did not persuade the Justices that what happens in Pennsylvania hurts Texas does not mean that the United States of America could not persuade the justices that when Pennsylvania violates the U.S. Constitution, it harms the nation. Article III, § 2, cl. 2 confers original jurisdiction on the Supreme Court in any case suit brought by the United States against a state. Thus, the United States can and should file suit against Pennsylvania, Georgia, Michigan and Wisconsin. Like the Texas suit, that new suit would seek an order invalidating the appointment of the electors appointed by those four defendant States that refused to abide by the terms of the Presidential Electors Clause.

Olsen and McSweeney say that if this happened, it would “leave it to the state legislatures in those four states to “appoint” electors — which is what the Constitution requires. The United States suffered an injury when those four states “violated the Constitution by allowing electors who had not been appointed in the manner prescribed by the state legislature.”

So, is this the next step for the Trump legal team? Trump legal adviser Jenna Ellis shared this legal strategy memo on Twitter, urging her followers to read it, so this strategy is definitely on their radar.

This still leaves us asking, “Is there hope?”

It’s the season of miracles, so never give up.

Boxer critical of Erdogan attacked with knife in Berlin, Germany

Cowardly knife attack on boxer Ünsal Arik (40 y/o/super welterweight) who is campaigning against Erdogan!

In the night from Tuesday to Wednesday, Arik was walking his dog near his flat in Berlin. Around 1am he was suddenly attacked from behind by two men.

As the tabloid BILD learned, there was an altercation in the course of which one of the attackers allegedly pulled out a knife. In the end, the boxer got a bump and a scratch on his stomach, as he posted on Twitter. Ünsal is said to be unsure whether the injury was caused by the knife because everything happened so quickly.

The boxer suspects that the men were lying in wait for him. He is said to assume a spontaneous attack because they recognised him on the street. The Turkish-speaking perpetrators finally fled. Whether the attack is related to Arik’s frank criticism of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan is a matter of conjecture.

Ünsal Arik is said not to have reported the incident to the police.
