Germany: African insults and threatens a train attendant and spits on him

Last Tuesday, around 1:40 p.m., the federal police station in Halle was called about a fare dodger in a regional express. The man was on his way from Sandersleben to Halle main station without a valid train ticket. The 24-year-old man from Guinea-Bissau disliked the possibilities offered of paying by train or leaving the train at the next stop. He wanted to use the train but did not want to pay for it. He reluctantly went with the train attendant to the ticket vending machine on the train. However, his cash was not enough to buy a ticket. A traveller even wanted to give the 24-year-old the missing money for the ticket. However, the behavior of the fare dodger became increasingly violent. So he screamed loudly on the train, insulted the train attendant with countless offensive words, spat in his face and came threateningly close to him. Courageous passengers noticed the dispute and supported the train attendant, they positioned themselves between them and the fare dodger. At Halle central station, a patrol of the federal police station arrested the man and took him to the police station. After the police measures had been completed, he was allowed to leave the police station. The 24-year-old will now have to answer for his fare evasion, insult and assault. The train attendant then went to the doctor and is currently on sick leave.

Germany: “Fridays for Future” activists are annoyed by what they consider to be too much attention paid to the synagogue in Halle, which has been attacked by terrorists

Because in their opinion politicians are not doing enough against the climate crisis, around 50 “Fridays for Future” activists protested in front of the exhibition grounds in Nuremberg yesterday. The reason: German Chancellor Angela Merkel visited the trade union conference of IG Metall and the activists wanted to welcome her with a protest. The motto of the rally was: “We bury our earth”. The demonstrators staged a funeral with flowers, grave candles, lights and a small grave. One of the demonstrators was particularly noticeable. Osteopath Björn L. (50 years old) proudly carried up his self-made poster. On the poster it was written: “If the climate were a synagogue…. What an outcry!!!”
“For me, the climate is simply more important right now,” says the Nuremberg native. And: “The terrorist attack in Halle was terrible, but what happens to the climate is much more terrible. The climate crisis affects us globally”. He himself considered his poster to be radical, but according to Björn L. this is the only way activists would be heard by politicians. He went on to say: “If only a part of the compassion that was shown for the synagogue in Halle would be shown for our climate, then I wouldn’t have to stand here today”.

Investigation opened against Lucerne imam

The Office of the Attorney General of Lucerne has opened an investigation into an Iraqi imam at the Dar Asalam mosque in the town of Kriens. The man is alleged to have advised followers to beat their wives if they disobey them.

The procedure was opened following an article recounting the incident in the SonntagsZeitung newspaperexternal link on October 6, the prosecutor’s office told the Keystone-SDA news agency on Monday.

According to the newspaper, the 38-year-old Iraqi made the remarks during a speech at a Friday prayer session at the Kriens mosque, near Lucerne, at the beginning of August.

The man, who is presumed innocent until a final decision is made, purportedly suggested disciplining women with physical violence if other methods such as discussion or taking separate beds fail. He also reportedly called for respect for sharia law.

SonntagsZeitung reported that the imam arrived in Switzerland in 2007, where he filed an asylum request that was rejected. He was reported to have received an F residence permit which allows foreigners to be provisionally admitted to the country in cases where it is impossible to send them back home for specific reasons.

He was one of four Iraqis tried by a Swiss court in 2016 for alleged support to the Islamic State militant group. The other three people tried were all found guilty, while he was acquitted.
