Germany: Asylum seeker injures woman with stab wounds, life-threatening

A 26-year-old man was temporarily arrested last night in Nordhausen. He is suspected of having attacked his 28-year-old partner with a knife and seriously injured her. Shortly after 9 p.m., police received a distress call that a woman in Stolberger Street had been attacked with a knife. The police discovered the seriously injured woman. She was taken to hospital and had to undergo emergency surgery during the night. The suspect was on the run at the time. Extensive search measures with special dogs and the police helicopter finally led to the tracing of the suspect in the city of Nordhausen. According to initial investigations, an argument arose in the 28-year-old’s apartment in the evening, which escalated to the stairwell. The man is said to have stabbed there several times. That night, specialists from the Thuringian State Criminal Police Office were deployed to secure evidence. The suspect is to be brought before a magistrate. He is an asylum seeker from Algeria. The almost one-year-old child, who was living in the apartment at the time of the crime, was taken to hospital as a precaution. It was only on the 22nd of May 2019 that special police forces were deployed in the apartment of the 28-year-old woman. The 26-year-old suspect was accused of having detained his partner in the apartment against her will.
