Already in July, a homeless person (43 years old) was arrested in the middle of Vienna’s Mariahilfer Street. On the two previous days, he is said to have broken into unlocked apartments in the Vienna district of Landstrasse and the Vienna district of Ottakring in the late hours of the night and raped a 61-year-old woman and a 63-year-old woman. The 62-year-old woman fought back fiercely during the assault and was beaten several times. The suspect also broke her upper arm. After he raped her, he stole the woman’s handbag and keys and fled. Before the rape on July 23, the man is said to have entered other unlocked flats, but had been forced to leave by the tenants. In addition, he is said to have removed and stolen the license plates from a parked vehicle on the same day in a parking garage in the district of Rudolfsheim-Fünfhaus. Since there is suspicion that the 43-year-old is still responsible for further criminal offences, a mug shot publication has now been ordered. The suspect apparently wore eye-catching jewellery such as numerous rings and necklaces, police reported. The suspect has also been convicted twice. According to the public prosecutor’s office, these were not sexual crimes. Prior to his arrest, the homeless man had been wanted to investigate his whereabouts in order to be able to obtain his identity documents. The investigators ask possible further victims to contact the Vienna State Criminal Investigation Department by calling 01/31310-33111.
