A patrol of the Federal Police (two officers and a service dog) was alerted by a witness during the night from last Monday to Tuesday at 2:00 a.m. that a woman (52 y.o) was being harassed by two men (19, 25 y.o) on the square of the Republic. When the officials arrived, the woman was detained and harassed by two men. The Federal Police separated the persons from each other and started the interrogation. Suddenly and very aggressively, the 19-year-old Algerian approached the officers, punched a policeman in the face and kicked his leg. With physical force the person was brought under control and arrested. The 25-year-old Moroccan then picked up a broken glass bottle and attacked the officers. The attack could be fended off by using the baton. Then the 25-year-old fled the scene. A threatened usage of the service dog did not cause the 25-year-old to halt. The service dog then caught the fleeing man and injured him in the abdominal and back area. The driver of an accidentally passing ambulance recognised the situation, so that the staff was immediately integrated into the police operation. An initial assessment of the injured person revealed that he suffered several scratch wounds, which, however, did not require medical attention. The person received initial care on the spot. An additional patrol of the Mönchengladbach police supported the operation and brought the two suspects into police custody. In addition to the opening of criminal proceedings, an ordered blood sample was taken there. Both persons are known to the police and have recently triggered several police operations. The assaulted police officer was still in service after the attack.
