Germany: Must pig farmers give up free-range farming because of a Muslim cemetery?

The couple from Mülheim wanted to be the first entrepreneurs in the Ruhr area to farm their pigs outdoors. Now this could become a thing of the past: Nearby is a Muslim cemetery. The concept of the “pig farmer couple”: raise the animals in free range and then sell them locally. But nothing could come of the ecological plan. The municipality is concerned that, in addition to alleged nature conservation requirements, the Muslims could feel disturbed by pig breeding. Because there is a Muslim cemetery 300 metres away. The entrepreneur concerned calls this “anticipatory obedience”. The tabloid Bild reports: “Not comprehensible for the entrepreneur. “At least 300 meters lie between our fields and the cemetery. If the city would show the same sensitivity to the non-Muslims, then all kebab stalls would have to close. There are certainly also people who feel disturbed by them,” says the entrepreneur.”Is there really no other place in Mülheim to raise pigs? It would really not only bother us, but all visitors,” said the chairman of the Mülheim Fatih Mosque (Fatih = “the conqueror”).The city points out that part of the farmland in question belongs to the municipality and, according to the development plan, is earmarked for the expansion of the Muslim cemetery. According to the city, farming pigs in the vicinity of the Islamic cemetery is undesirable, but has nothing to do with Muslim sensibilities.
