In coordination with the Cologne public prosecutor’s office, the Cologne police have seized the driving licences of four drivers of a Turkish wedding party on their way to Cologne. The three men (27, 30, 30 y.o ) and one woman (28 y.o) are said to have brought traffic to a standstill on the Highway 57 on Sunday afternoon (14th of April) and used the entire lane to celebrate. The Cologne police are investigating a total of nine drivers in this case because of the massive danger to road traffic. Only with emergency braking was it possible for the following traffic to prevent a collision with the vehicles stopped on the motorway, witnesses reported. Two people who were unable to present a driving licence, including the driver of the bride (25 y.o), were banned from driving by the police.Police officers of the “Race Task Force” recognized unauthorized technical changes in a car and secured the traffic-insecure vehicle. Videos published on an Internet platform show risky overtaking manoeuvres and vehicles with smoking tires. “We use all the legal means at our disposal to combat such ruthless and life-threatening behaviour in road traffic,” says Werner Gross, head of the Cologne Police Traffic Department, warning all imitators.According to existing statements the wedding party interrupted its journey around 2.30 p.m. shortly before the Bickendorf junction. Witnesses tell of women dancing on the motorway and of drivers changing cars. The Cologne police stopped the cars on Gladbacher Street, some of which were occupied by children, and checked the drivers and passengers.
