Austria: Experts warn against seeing Muslims as victims across the board

Hardly anyone in Austria knows more about radical forms of Islam than the author and historian Heiko Heinisch. In view of the recent debate about the Islam map, he now speaks out clearly – and blames the public’s handling of the issue: “For years, many media have ignored indications of problematic currents and ideologies outside the Islamic Religious Union of Austria (IGGÖ), and there is no research in and about the respective associations.

Against the backdrop of the debate about anti-Islam warning signs mounted by right-wingers, he warns against encouraging a false narrative according to which “Islam and all Muslims in general are always seen as victims. This is precisely what would help the problematic movements in Islam with their propaganda.

Anti-terrorist unit arrests youth who planned Islamist attacks in Hungary

Officials of Hungary’s anti-terrorist unit TEK have arrested a young Hungarian Muslim who allegedly planned terrorist attacks in Hungary, TEK chief János Hajdu said at a press conference on Wednesday – reports MTI news agency.

According to Hajdu, the 21-year-old suspect had made preparations for attacks such as setting off bombs at mass events or driving into crowds. TEK had launched an investigation into discussions on the internet platforms linked to the Islamic State terrorist organisation, where people “spreading jihadist propaganda” were chatting about preparations for terrorist attacks, Hajdu said.

During the discussions, the suspect agreed to prepare pipe bombs for use at mass events in Hungary and expressed his desire to commit driving attacks, he said, adding that the young man had already bought materials for the bombs. Hajdu said the suspect was a “normal, average” university student in Budapest who had converted to Islam. In response to a question, Hajdu said he could not say whether the suspect had accomplices.

Romanesque church from the 13th century devastated on Ascension weekend in Gers, France

It’s astonishing: why would they attack such a building? The Romanesque church of Saint-Pierre de Tasque (photo) dates back to the 13th century. It represents a real historical, cultural and religious site. It is a listed monument, as is its entire interior. Trouble, during the weekend of Ascension Day, it was vandalised, reports La Dépêche this Wednesday, June 2.It was tourists who found the place in a pitiful state, having come to visit an “atypical church, one of the oldest” in the Gers department, which had been “built and rebuilt several times in history”, according to Franck Arnoux, the mayor of the place.Nothing was stolen, the church was only wantonly damaged. The mayor lamented that “they had their fun” while broken glass covered the floor, statues were torn down and writing was placed on the altar. The building, which has “stylistic, artistic and historical” value, had recently been restored. So there will be costs for the small village of 260 inhabitants. In the meantime, there are ” rumours in the community and everyone is suspicious”, says the mayor, who would like to shed light on this affair in order to “exonerate certain young people”.

Anti-Semitic attack at Palestine demo in Berlin: German mainstream media criticises the victims

At the big anti-Israel demonstration on May 15 at Hermannplatz square in Berlin, there was an anti-Semitic attack. Three friends, two of whom were wearing a Star of David necklace, were physically attacked and insulted in the worst possible way. One man threatens, “I’ll spit in your face” and “You’re only here to provoke.” One of the victims says afterwards, “Wearing a Star of David as a provocation? That is deeply anti-Semitic”. Later, they still have to justify to the police why they appeared at such a demonstration wearing Stars of David. The incident was not reported by the police – it was made public by an article in the daily Tagesspiegel. A commendable journalistic job. But the Tagesspiegel would not be the Tagesspiegel if it did not completely destroy any semblance of reason in the next move – and that is exactly what happened.

This was followed in the newspaper by a commentary on the incident entitled “Not everything that is permitted is also wise” by Malte Lehming, who is listed as the newspaper’s managing editor. The author had apparently achieved questionable fame in 2010 by writing: “Better a few young, foreign intensive offenders than an army of old, intensely passive natives.

His comment this Wednesday reads as if someone is trying to provide a textbook example of perpetrator-victim reversal. Of course, Lehming adds: “The victim always remains a victim, is never even complicit in the acts of the perpetrators”. However, when the next word in the text is “but”, everything is actually said. Those who attack other people should be punished, “but that does not mean that any further discussion about wise situations is superfluous,” he writes.

“Clever situational behaviour” – this means that the victims should not have worn the Star of David necklace at all. Common sense dictates that a distinction be made between what is permitted and what is “required”. On the one hand, one would like to ask: Why actually? There are actually only critics of Israel at these demonstrations, they have nothing against Jews (or so they say). Or do they? Are Palestine demos no-go areas for Jews?

Lehming goes on to ask: “Who feels provoked by this?” He compares the situation to going to a right-wing radical demo wearing an Antifa shirt or setting up an AfD stand in the street Rigaer Straße (where the Antifa hotspot is, Ed.). However, as the Tagesspiegel itself writes in the initial article on the incident, the three people were not at the demo to provoke or to make any political statements at all. “The two women are on their way to friends. They were invited to Shabbat dinner. They meet Adam by chance on Hermannplatz square. Lara and Louisa wear Jewish symbols like a Star of David as a necklace around their necks.” it says.

But never mind. Of course, the author constantly emphasises that the victims are the victims and not the perpetrators, and that nothing should be confused. But somehow the victims are also supposed to have behaved wrongly. But then the question remains: Why this text? What does the Tagesspiegel author want to tell us? What is the message of this commentary? The Jews don’t need to be surprised either? That Jews in Germany had better wear their Stars of David secretly in future so as not to provoke “legitimate critics of Israel”?

What an inconceivable distortion: what is being demanded here, only moderately concealed, is that Jewish symbols should gradually disappear from public perception: out of consideration for the sensitivities of Jew-haters. This is called de-escalation – or “common sense”? Instead of asking how far it has come that there are no-go areas for Jews in Germany, Jews are being lectured on how they should deal with these no-go areas.

Appeasement is not even a word – a line has been crossed here. Does the Tagesspiegel really want to leave it at that?

Germany: Turk slaughtered German mother of two small children with 27 knife wounds

Covered in blood, Cenk D. sat in front of his ex’s house in March. He had treacherously murdered Bianca G. (27), with whom he has two children, with 27 stabs.

Now he was sentenced to life imprisonment.

Judge Christian Singelmann (64) uncovered the lies of the German-Turkish man (29).

“Your statement that everything got out of control and that you did not want all this is completely absurd,” said the veteran jurist in his explanation of the verdict.

Two days before the crime, D. had bought the murder knife. He googled “murder” and “manslaughter” on the internet. Singelmann stated: ” Your actions were planned and purposeful.”

D. stopped his daughter (9) in front of the flat, had the key given to him. Inside the house he took off his shoes. Singelmann said: “You wanted to get into the flat unnoticed in order to take advantage of your girlfriend’s helplessness and defencelessness.”

Before the crime, D. had already beaten the woman with a hoover pipe and held a knife to her neck. Threatened to kidnap the children to Turkey. Singelmann said: ” You were full of hate, you said to witnesses after the crime: ‘I hope she’s dead, she deserves that.

Now D. is going to prison for at least 15 years. His children will then be 19 and 24 years old.

The judge said: “You didn’t care about the children, otherwise you wouldn’t have taken their mother away from them. You were only concerned about yourself.

Sweden: Immigrants gang wars escalate

Gang wars in the immigrant-dominated Hjällbo district of Gothenburg on Friday evening escalated into large-scale riots that lasted all night. More than 100 people are said to have taken part in the riots, of which around 30 have been taken into police custody. The vast majority have been released but three people are under arrest for violent rioting.

According to the police, the reason for these riots is the rivalry which has existed for a long time between two immigrant criminal gangs. One is controlled by members of the Khan clan, led by Ali Khan, who has settled in the region in a Mafia fashion.

Knives were reportedly used by those involved. One person had to be taken to hospital, Swedish outlet Samnytt reported

The police responded by contacting the violent criminals to negotiate a peace deal between the two gangs. But on Sunday, gunshots and new riots broke out in the area. Two people were reportedly injured in the shooting, one of whom was shot in the head and died. A total of three people were taken to hospital.

Police arrested one person at the scene on suspicion of murder. According to information from a police source, the shooting was an act of revenge.

Police are also looking for another man who is believed to be involved in the shooting, Aftonbladet said. The man allegedly arrived at the scene of the murder at the same time as the arrested gunman and managed to escape the scene on a bicycle.

This week people with links to the conflict also arrived in Gothenburg via Landvetter airport. According to information provided to GT, it is said that a large number of people with gang connections were from Germany.

Of 22 European countries, a report from the Swedish National Council for Crime Prevention (BRA) showed that only Croatia had more gun deaths per capita over the last four years. And no other country had seen as rapid an increase as Sweden.

15 Dutch mayors unite against ‘parallel societies’

The mayors of 15 Dutch cities, including Amsterdam, Rotterdam, Utrecht and the Hague, are calling for a national recovery plan to curb the emergence of parallel societies in migrant communities in the Netherlands. The mayors’ proclamation was published online by the Dutch daily Algemeen Dagblad under the title “Bridge the gap”.

The politically correct term of “vulnerable districts”(“kwetsbare wijken”) used in the Netherlands to describe the phenomenon typically associated with the living areas of non-Western immigrants is often seen as a term that translates to poverty, crime, and unemployment. A similarly vulnerable district is the eastern part of Leeuwarden, whose mayor is also among the petitioners.

According to Statista estimates, there are roughly 2.3 million non-Western immigrants in the Netherlands, typically of Moroccan and Turkish descent, but a significant number of immigrants also arrived from the South American Republic of Suriname (formerly known as Dutch Guyana). Mayors say that recent developments in these districts, unless swift action is taken, could lead to a situation where later it would be impossible to bridge the gap between these communities and those in the rest of the country.

Added to this is the fact that children studying in these districts typically perform worse than children studying in the rest of the country, and these young people are also either perpetrating crimes or falling victim to crime.

The phenomenon affects 1 million people living in the 16 most affected areas. The petitioners add that the coronavirus crisis has even exacerbated the trend. The mayors’ initiative mayors point to the 2012 Rotterdam Plan (Nationaal Program Rotterdam Zuid), aimed at catching up with disadvantaged neighborhoods, as a possible solution. The signatories of the initiative demand a central government grant of €500 million and related legislation from the government.

The mayors also encourage establishing voluntary tutoring sessions of ten hours a week, which, in their view, would help disadvantaged students overcome their handicap. In addition, the mayors also point out that this ten-hour extra education could in itself be instrumental in keeping those lagging behind off the streets.

Austria: Ex-ski champion Nicola Werdenigg compares migrant tents in Greece to Mauthausen concentration camp

“This idiot seriously compares the migrant camp #Moria, abandoned due to fire, with #Mauthausen, where 100,000 people were murdered by forced labour, hunger, disease and gassing during the Second World War,” a Twitter user criticises the ex-ski racer for her posting about the migrant camp. He is not alone in his protest, many users think that such statements trivialise the Holocaust – and that this posting by Nicola Werdenigg (63) was in bad taste.

For example, the Ex-Liste-Jetzt activist literally wrote during her privately financed “fact-finding mission” in Greece: “The visit to the burnt-down camp #moria triggers similar feelings of unease as Mauthausen. People are locked up in concentration camps in the EU. We will not stop making the serious human rights crimes public.”

The use of the terms “Mauthausen” and “concentration camp” in connection with asylum accommodation in Greece is indeed not unproblematic: As every compulsory school graduate in Austria knows, the victims of National Socialism imprisoned in concentration camps had no possibility to leave – migrants can very well return to their countries of origin at any time.

Equally problematic is Werdenigg’s insinuation that “the EU” would lock people up in concentration camps: The political leadership in Brussels does make some mistakes in asylum care, but to accuse the EU leadership of deliberately destroying human lives and deliberately torturing migrants – as was common in concentration camps at the time – is a massive provocation or a dramatic ignorance of the conditions in the camps of National Socialism.

Due to the immediate reactions, it must have quickly become clear to Nicola Werdenigg that she had gone a step too far with her choice of words: The ex-ski racer tried to backpedal, denied her intention to trivialise the Holocaust – and continued to formulate harshly: “I did not make a Holocaust comparison. I am reporting on the ruins of a current hell that has been reopened a few kilometres away. People are being destroyed here. Simply because we are not supposed to speak the truth for a thousand reasons.” And Werdenigg rebuked the critics, “Since, as you say, you cannot imagine what is being done to people here, perhaps you had better not judge what I call a concentration camp. Thank you.”

200,000 people were imprisoned in the Mauthausen concentration camp, 120,000 of them were murdered by the Nazi regime.

The Moria asylum camp was located in the interior of the East Aegean island of Lesbos. In March of the previous year, 20,000 people temporarily lived in the camp, which was designed for 2800 people; it was Europe’s largest refugee camp and a so-called EU hotspot. For years, the camp had been in catastrophic conditions due to overcrowding. On the night of September 9, 2020, several young migrants from Afghanistan set fire to the camp, which almost completely destroyed the camp and the refugees’ belongings, leaving 12,600 people homeless. Some of the people were taken to the Greek mainland, and a temporary tent camp was set up for 7800 people on the coast near the already existing Kara Tepe camp.
