Hesse’s Minister President Volker Bouffier ( Christian Democratic Union) has made a statement on the suicide of State Finance Minister Thomas Schäfer (†54), brought his death in connection with the Corona crisis. “We are immensely sad,” said Bouffier. “He is exactly the person we would have needed most in such a difficult time.” And further: “We must assume today that he was very worried. Above all, he was very worried about whether it would be possible to meet the expectations of the people, particularly with regard to financial aid. I must assume that these worries have depressed him. He obviously could not find a way out.He was desperate and he left us.
