According to information from the authorities so far, a 25-year-old woman is said to have stayed in a restaurant in Hirschstraße in Ulm on Sunday. When the woman had not returned from the ladies’ toilet after a long time, a friend of the woman had looked after her at about 3.30 a.m.A witness called in by her then opened the door from the outside to the toilet cabin in which the 25-year-old had been. The witness had established that there had been another man in the same cabin who had immediately taken flight. Several witnesses persecuted this man and detained him not far from the restaurant, despite resistance, until the police arrived. After preliminary arrest, the investigators brought the suspect to the responsible magistrate on Sunday on urgent suspicion of attempted rape. He issued an arrest warrant at the request of the public prosecutor’s office. Since then, the man – an Iraqi asylum-seeker – has been detained on remand for the risk of absconding. Investigations by the authorities continue. They praise the courageous intervention of the witnesses.
