Germany: Syrian seriously injured schoolgirl and university student – police had no grounds for detention

On Maundy Thursday before Easter, a 34-year-old Syrian brutally attacked an 18-year-old high school student in a Magdeburg tram and broke her nose with a punch. When a 28-year-old medical student tried to stop the perpetrator, he was also attacked by the Syrian and suffered three lacerations on his head as well as a fracture of the forehead sinus. The perpetrator was taken to a psychiatric ward after the violent excess and was able to release himself the next day. Not until eight days later was an arrest warrant issued and the Syrian was arrested in Magdeburg. It is disturbing that the police had first trivialized the crime in their press release and renounced information about the nationality of the thug. The chairman of the AfD parliamentary group, Oliver Kirchner, said: “It is always shocking with what brutality and ruthlessness so-called persons seeking protection attack our population. The police authorities unfortunately play a very inglorious role when they trivialize migrant violence and conceal the criminal’s origin. Citizens should be informed about security risks and not left in the dark by incomplete reports. The fact that a highly dangerous perpetrator of violence remains at large for more than a week is due either to excessive demands or to excessive political correctness in the police force, which has been driven to extremes by the Black-Red-Green (Christian Democrats, Social Democrats, Greens, Ed.) state government.”Mario Lehmann, legal policy spokesman, added: “This process underscores the country’s domestic declaration of bankruptcy, which the heads of the Northern Police Headquarters and especially Interior Minister Stahlknecht have been working towards for some time. It is unacceptable that violent excesses by migrants against our citizens are trivialised or swept under the carpet on a regular basis. In this case, a schoolgirl and a student were beaten to be hospitalized. We are curious to see whether there will soon be pupils and students who are truanting their schools and going out on Fridays to the streets against unacceptable migrant violence. It’s high time it did!”
