Germany: Iraqi asylum seekers stab a local man in front of a restaurant

After a verbal argument and a subsequent scuffle, an Iraqi stabbed his victim last night in the street in front of a restaurant in the Düsseldorf district of Golzheim. The 51-year-old victim suffered several stab wounds, which were life-threatening according to first assessments of the treating emergency physician. The man from Düsseldorf is currently being treated as an inpatient. The suspect and his companion were identified and arrested in a municipal refugee accommodation. According to the current investigations of the criminal investigation department, the injured party was together with friends in a restaurant on Kaiserswerther Street when, shortly after 11 p.m., he and a friend decided to smoke a cigarette outside the door. Here the 51-year-old got into an argument with two immigrants from Iraq (25 and 23 years old) and subsequently into a physical dispute. In the course of this, the 25-year-old stabbed the man from Düsseldorf with a stabbing weapon and so severely injured his upper body that the emergency doctor in charge of the case assumed that his life was in danger. The case is now being investigated by the Criminal Investigation Department, which classifies it as an attempted homicide. The main perpetrator is brought before a magistrate.
